Vaping CBD Oil: What You Need to Know

CBD can help treat, pain, anxiety, depression, and a number of different ailments. If you’re already using CBD you’re likely familiar with the benefits it can provide but you may not be aware of the different methods you can use to take it. Sublingual absorption of a CBD tincture is one of the most popular methods and CBD edible gummies are also very common products to come across when shopping online for CBD. These methods are both excellent ways to deliver CBD to your system but it can take awhile for the CBD to take effect. Vaping CBD allows the cannabinoid to reach your bloodstream almost immediately, making it the perfect choice when you need fast relief.

What is Vaping?

Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling a vapor produced by a battery powered smoking device, such as a vape pen or other vaping device. Vaping does not require any materials to be burned and does not create smoke. Instead, a liquid is added to the device, heated into a vapor, the vapor turns into an aerosol that can be inhaled into the lungs.

What is in Vape Juice?

Vape juice, or vape oil, is typically made up of water, vegetable glycerin and/or propylene glycol, flavoring, and nicotine. The vegetable glycerine acts as a sweetener, preservative, and thickening agent. The propylene glycol can be used with the vegetable glycerin or lieu of it and while it still acts as a preservative, it does not have any taste or odor. Flavoring and nicotine may not always be present in a vape juice, especially in CBD vape juices. If nicotine is present, it will be advertised on the bottle in milligrams, which refers to how many milligrams there are per milliliter.

Choosing a CBD Vape Oil

CBD vape juice, or vape oil, is a CBD oil that can be used with a vape device. These vape juices are made from a regular CBD oil with additional ingredients added, such as vegetable glycerine and/or propylene glycol, that will allow the liquid to be vaporized within a vape device.

When choosing a CBD vape oil you need to keep in mind that you’re inhaling a substance directly into your lungs. Choosing the cheapest oils can be seriously dangerous because a low quality, poorly made product could damage your respiratory system or make you sick. It’s incredibly important to choose a trusted and reliable company that is known for its high quality products. You should research the brand you plan to buy from, read reviews from other customers, and make sure the company provides third party lab results so you know exactly what you’re buying.

Choosing a Vape Device

If you already vape other e-liquids and vape juices, you’ll be familiar with how your device works. Vape devices work the same way for CBD products as they do for other vape juices so unless you prefer a disposable CBD vape pen or want a device dedicated just for CBD oils you can use the vape device you already own.

If you’re brand new to vaping, you have a few options. Disposable vape devices prefilled with CBD vape juice are super easy to use and they’re usually inexpensive. They are cigarette-style pens that come prefilled with CBD oil and will usually last for about 200-300 puffs. Once they run out, you simply dispose of them and buy a new one, no refilling necessary.

You can also purchase a refillable vape device and fill it up with your own CBD e-liquid or fit it with a prefilled cartridge. These are slightly more complicated than the disposable devices but you’ll end up saving money in the long run. Refillable vape pens require a bit of maintenance, such as changing the coil and cleaning the tank. Every device is a little different and the care, filling, and usage instructions can vary from pen to pen so be sure to read the instructions that are provided with your model.

Benefits to Vaping CBD

Vaping CBD provides the same benefits as taking CBD through any other method, such as sublingual tinctures or edibles, but the product will reach your bloodstream within a few minutes rather than 30 minutes to an hour, or possibly longer with edibles. The duration of the effects ranges from about 1 to 3 hours, which is somewhat shorter than when ingested because the CBD is eliminated more quickly when inhaled.

The speed at which CBD can take effect through vaping can be extremely useful for those that use CBD to relieve pain or anxiety. When you feel a panic attack coming on or your pain is returning, taking a puff of your vape pen can provide immediate relief.

Vape Safety

When inhaling a substance into your lungs it’s so important to know what’s in the product you’re using. There are no regulations or standards for production of CBD products, so while CBD itself is safe and non-toxic, the product could be contaminated with other toxins or harmful chemicals. Shopping only from trusted producers and reviewing their third party lab reports will help you to be sure you are getting a safe and high quality product.

Customers with asthma or respiratory conditions may aggravate their condition by using a vape device or inhaling any type of smoke or vapour. If you have one of these conditions you should consider another method of CBD ingestion or discuss the use of inhalants with your doctor.

Vaping in Combination with Other Methods

Vaping CBD can provide immediate relief but the effects typically don’t last as long as a tincture or an edible. You may find it incredibly helpful to use a combination of different ingestion methods so you can maintain a steady level of CBD in your system throughout the day. A tincture can be used on a routine schedule and a vape pen can be used throughout the day as needed. You may find you just prefer the vape method and use it as you primary source of CBD. Knowing every type of CBD product and understanding the pros and cons of each will allow you to devise the perfect dosing regimen and get the most benefit and relief from your CBD products.
